About this tool

Not every YouTube video is watchable worldwide. Music licensing, broadcast rights, and creator settings can block a video in specific countries - and YouTube doesn't show you the full list anywhere. This checker reveals the exact region restrictions of any video through the official API.

Creators use this to verify their own uploads aren't accidentally restricted after using licensed music. Marketers check that campaign videos are viewable in their target markets before spending on promotion. Viewers use it to understand why a video shows 'not available in your country' and where it actually works.

The result shows one of three states: available worldwide (no restrictions), blocked in specific countries (with the full country list), or only allowed in specific countries (whitelist mode, common for TV and sports content).

Features

  • Complete blocked/allowed country lists with full names
  • Detects both blacklist and whitelist restriction modes
  • Official YouTube API data - not guesswork
  • Clear 'available worldwide' confirmation for unrestricted videos
  • Works with any public video
  • Free and unlimited checks

Frequently asked questions

Why are some YouTube videos blocked in certain countries?

The most common reason is music licensing - a song's rights holder may only permit playback in certain markets. Other causes: TV/sports broadcast rights, the creator manually restricting distribution, or legal requirements in specific countries.

My own video got region-blocked - what happened?

Almost always a Content ID claim on music in your video. Check YouTube Studio → Content → your video → Restrictions column. Replacing or removing the claimed track (YouTube Studio has a built-in editor for this) usually lifts the restriction.

What's the difference between blocked and allowed lists?

A blocked list means the video works everywhere EXCEPT those countries. An allowed list (whitelist) is stricter - the video ONLY works in the listed countries and is blocked everywhere else. Whitelists are common for licensed TV, sports, and music label content.

Can region restrictions change over time?

Yes. Licensing deals expire and get renegotiated, Content ID claims get resolved, and creators change settings. A video blocked today may be available next month - this tool always shows the current live state.
